New Community Hub at Jan Hammond!
Team Fairy Wren takes Jan Hammond Dog Park!
We recently unveiled our latest Community Hub at Jan Hammond Dog Park!
This is the second Community Hub in Success, and in our opinion... it's pretty special.
Why?
Two reasons:
First, this community hub features a beautiful piece of art on the front door, painted by an awesome (anonymous) local artist!
Second, after a round of voting, the Fairy Wren finally took it's rightful place as library mascot! If you've been following along, you'll know that the fairy Wren has been pretty popular with voters at our previous event.
(More on fairy wrens at the end of this article!)
Initially, our artist left a blank space on the front door, but once the results were out, our artist returned under the cover of night to finish the job. Check it out!
Community Hub Before Voting…
Community Hub After Voting!
Behind the gorgeous front door, the new community hub features a stack of new (secondhand!) books and games, plus a community dog toy library! This new dog toy swap box is already very popular with the Jan Hammond Pooches and Pooch Parents! Among the books, a secret Gem was left behind - a blind date with a book - packaged and donated by Sarah, owner of the beautiful Little Daintree Library.
Aside from the library, there were outdoor games, a tennis match, and an announcement of the winners for our recent colouring competition! If you entered our colouring competition, you can collect your colouring along with a sticker or prize from the Success Public Library (11 Wentworth Parade) before Christmas.
Our event also featured a special appearance from Frosty J Ice Cream! The delicious real-fruit soft serves, blended fresh, were perfect for a hot afternoon! Thank you, Frosty J, for attending our event free of charge! (If you see this truck around, do yourself a favour and treat yourself a fantastic local treat.)
After some ice cream, we set to work dreaming up our vision for the future of success by writing on leaves, and decorating the library with a few stickers. Stay tuned, we’re going to start working on these community visions in 2026!
If your favourite mascot still hasn't won, don't worry! There’s still time for the Pukeko (or swamp hen) and quenda (or bandicoot) to shine!
We'll be rolling out more of these libraries across Success in 2026!
To do this, we're looking for volunteers who are interested in helping us bring these projects to life!
If you want one of these libraries in your local park, you can volunteer your time to help us make it happen! Tasks include helping to organise or set-up/pack-down the next event, or volunteering as 'library custodian' and help us keep an eye on the library once it’s in place! If this sounds interesting to you, you can get in touch here.
One last thing... if you're familiar with the local area, you might know that there aren't really any fairy wrens around Jan Hammond. Our plan is to change this…and we already have a rehabilitation project underway in the area!
For the last few years, local legend Pauline has been working to rehabilitate a sandy area under the power lines, affectionately named 'The Patch'. Thanks to Pauline’s hard work, along with some group planting and watering events, many of the new plants have established themselves and even flowered this past spring! If you want to get involved with our local environmental projects, check out our Friends of Success group.
Like all good community projects, this community hub is the result of many people coming together. Notably, the Jarrah components were custom built by the local Cockburn Community Mens Shed, the library box was sponsored by the locally-owned engineering company Resolve Automation, and the whole thing was drilled in place by locally-owned Full Pressure Plumbing and Gas, ensuring that the hub will last a lifetime. The cherry on top was the smattering of artworks prepared by Paper and Palette students, and turned into long-lasting UV decals by local business Little Grey Cat Co. We’d also like to extend an extra-special thank you to our anonymous artist who found time to do this project last minute using their own supplies!
The SRA would also like to thank the City of Cockburn, who funded this project, donated chalk and pens to help us bring the event to life, and supported us immensely in building our community organisation.
We look forward to many more grass-roots community events and projects just like this one in 2026.
See you next time!
Peace!
